Our Background
No matter what type of support you and your pets need, you can count on us to meet your needs and exceed your expectations. That’s because The Dog Lodge was created for one single reason - to provide all pets and pet parents the services and care that they need and deserve. We are both from public service backgrounds and, after many years of trying unsuccessfully to add children to our family we now pour all our love onto the dogs!
Abi was a maths teacher, specialising in working with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties before becoming a tutor for children with autism. She was looking for a change of career and said yes one day to helping out a friend with dog sitting and one thing led to another and The Dog Lodge was born. She has certificates in both human and dog first aid and is working on a qualification in dog behaviour studies. She has qualifications in bookkeeping which will be useful for running the business and is also a running coach, leading couch to 5k and running group sessions in Bromsgrove and loves running canicross with Loki. Never one to sit still she recently qualified as an open water lifeguard and helps out at a local lake in her (limited) spare time!
Damien worked in social services for 20 years in the Looked After Children Department and took redundancy earlier this year. He'd seen how much fun Abi was having working with dogs and jumped at the chance to join the business full time! Damien also enjoys running and is chief dog walker, he is the one to play with the dogs and is particularly good with nervous dogs that that don't usually like men. He is soon going to complete training in dog first aid and looks forward to furthering his knowledge in all things dog related.
Meet the Residents
Loki is a lively and good natured sprollie (springer/collie cross) aged 6. He was our first puppy (having previously had a rescue dog) and has taught us a lot about managing dog behaviour! He is friendly to other dogs but can sense when they want to be left alone. He is wary of intact male dogs and we need to ensure that we introduce them first in neutral territory, please inform us if your dog is not neutered.
Blondie was an ex racing greyhound who was adopted by Abi's Dad. When he died in 2021 she came to live with us and had a happy 3 years as part of our family. We were devastated to lose her in June 2024 aged 14.5.
